History: [ link ]
Personality: Known to be both a brilliant scientist as well as a heartless fiend, Relius Clover is a complex man who possesses no sympathy for others. He is cold and calculating, a bastard who would easily experiment his own in the pursuit of science. Relius cares very little about the world around him and seems to care even less about the family he once cherished. His cruelty truly seems to know no bounds once the the story regarding the Nox Nyctores Nirvana creation unveils. What father would willingly turn his own daughter into a cold unfeeling machine? Relius' heartless actions certainly would leave many questioning if the man even possesses a beating heart to begin with, but many others would rather question his sanity instead. Relius is a madman, a complete lunatic gifted with sin.

He seems to take joy in the suffering of others and seem utterly incapable of showing compassion even towards his own son, Carl. He is a monster, someone who's clearly“evil”. However, to simply deem Relius as some sort of evil amoral monster would be a tad unfair. He is so much more than just that. Relius is a man gifted in both the ways of magic and science, a genius with the vast knowledge of the entire universe at his fingertips. His true power doesn't lie within his many destructive creations but rather within his boundless intellect. There's literally nothing Relius cannot do or will not do in the pursuit of glory.

While the truth of his brutal nature is mostly known to all who know of him, Relius doesn't exactly come across as your stereotypical madman. He acts and dresses that of a nobleman, always poised and sophisticated. Given his somewhat fanciful attire and debonair grace, no one would easily suspect him to be the demon that he really is. He could be likened to a wolf in sheep's clothing but definitely not in the same extent as his mock partner/ally, Hazama. Relius doesn't hide his true intentions or feckless disregard for life from anyone, yet he doesn't go out of his way to share his true nature with everyone. He is as tricky as they come, a sly old fox in every sense of the phrase. Relius is both cunning and charming, sophisticated yet wild. He's two contradictions meshed together to form one very unique individual.

While Relius' greatest strength comes from his vast intellect and unrivaled ambition, these strengths can also be his weaknesses. Relius allows his ambition to hinder him from seeing the error in his ways, and his intellect seems to act as a catalyst for all the evil he has done. No one is certain why such an esteemed scientist would turn his own wife and daughter into his personal guinea pigs, but Relius seems to lack morals. His lack of empathy for others is definitely more of a weakness than a strength. He honestly doesn't seem capable of relating with others which might explain his lack of compassion. While no one knows if Relius has always been this way, one could certainly speculate that somewhere down the line that Relius lost a piece of his humanity. Whether it was at the jaws of the Black Beast or caused by previous traumatic event, Relius certainly seems to be possessed by negativity.

Strengths:

A number of Relius' strengeths coexists with his endless talent for science and magic. He is an unparalleled genius who've managed to merge these two vastly different fields together through his intellect. He has managed to create several weapons through his understanding of technology and ars magus, one such weapon such as the Nox Nyctores Nirvana and the Murakumo Units along with his puppet-like doll, Fluctus Redactum Ignis. While the procedure of how he creates these powerful weapons are virtually unknown, it is suggested that many human souls are necessary in order to create just one Nox Nyctores. Therefore, for Relius to be able to create a powerful Nox Nyctores such as the Nirvana with only using the soul of his own daughter proves his genius despite how sickening his experiments might be.

Other than his capabilities within the laboratory, Relius seems to be capable enough in battle despite being handicapped. His right arm is completely mechanical and with this mechanical arm, Relius can unleash a volley of punches using that arm to morph larger or smaller in size against his opponents. His speed and strength are slightly above average in comparison to a normal human, but Relius boasts more in combat for his tactics rather than brute strength or agility. His seemingly mental control over Ignis during battle is what makes him truly a force to be reckoned with. Relis can summon Ignis in and out of battle with the mere snap of his fingers. This deadly doll will then commence with several unique attacks that can all but kill man if Relius isn't careful. Ignis' power is almost unrivaled to anyone else's in the series and it's clear that Ignis is powerful to both deflect the Nirvana's attacks and capture the powerful mutant beast, Arakune, easily.

It is also assumed that Relius is actually immortal given his lengthy life span. It is uncommon for mere humans to be able to live for hundreds of years, yet Relius seems to be an exception to fact. While any question regarding his supposed immortality has yet to be questioned, Relius certainly seemed to have risen from grave more than twice now in the story. The first time he supposedly “died”, Relius was devoured completely by the Black Beast. Even after his first brush with death, Relius seemed to survive his second encounter even after the Nox Nyctores Nirvana stabbed him through the chest. Whether or not this is proof of his immortality has yet to be known, but Relius definitely seems to be immortal in some way in order to still be alive after all this time.

In addition to alleged immortality, Relius Clover possesses the uncanny skill to see within people's minds/soul. While this power of his has yet to be given a full explanation in the game, Relius does use his mind reading ability to antagonize several characters in Blazblue. The first time this skill was used was on Makoto Nanaya to gain information. The process itself seemed somewhat painful to Makoto, perhaps hinting that Relius does more than just dive into people's minds. In accordance to what Relius did to Makoto, he does something similar to his son Carl during a match. Apparently the powers he possess make it possible for him to send someone's consciousness into the void of the Boundary. There he can share and receive information with the victims at will, giving them his “eyes” to see through.

Weaknesses:

As for Relius' weaknesses, despite how gifted and talented he might be; the puppeteer is limited by his own need for knowledge. He's completely obsessed with his research to the brink of madness. There's nothing Relius won't do in order to achieve the greatness his seeks, even if that means experimenting on his own family. His cruelty seems to know no end and his unquenchable thirst for knowledge will much sooner lead him to his doom rather than to glory. He's too ambitious, too prideful, and too stubborn to know when to stop. His ambitious nature is what lead him to be swallowed up by the Cauldron in the first place. The man is a monster who will stop at nothing until his desires are met, a flaw that will certainly one day cause his untimely demise.

Besides his stubborn ways, Relius is still very much flesh and blood despite his alleged immortality. Stab him and he'll bleed, shoot him and he'll most likely would perish. Relius is still organic as any living organism, all except for his right arm that is completely crafted from metal. There's nothing truly immortal about Relius besides the fact that he must have extraordinary "luck" in order not to be dead by now.

First Person:

How quaint. I never thought I would find myself donning the role of the "specimen", but what an interesting twist. I suppose there's much to be learned about this fabricated little world, just as there is much to learn regarding my captors.

What are they called again? The Malnosso, was it? I tip my hat to you clever gentlemen because only I, a fellow scholar, could appreciate how masterful this elaborate ploy truly is. Although, do not assume that I will merely stand by idly and allow your kind to do as you please.

Perhaps it would be in your best interest for all of you to come to your senses and free me from this little experiment. I'm quite sure you and your kind might view yourself with omnipotent claim, but I have experience in dealing with self-indulgent "gods".

Therefore, shall we converse on the terms of my freedom?

Third Person:

Gazing up at a foreign yet familiar night sky, Relius took a moment to study the horizon before lurching forward in agony. Blood that stained his brightly colored tunic also stained his golden wings with crimson. The faint hues of fuchsia that normally dons these pretty feathers, were replaced by that of a sickening red. He could barely stand upright after the thrashing he got, and the droplets of blood that trailed behind him hinted that truth. Yet and still, the maniacal puppeteer still felt no response despite how much he suffered thus far. It was almost refreshing to have his foes be so adamant about defeating him, especially since none of them seemed capable enough to stop him. Nevertheless, the heroes managed to give him a few scars to remember them by. Nearly stumbling upon the rocky path for second time, Relius finally reached his destination.

The sleepy village of Luceti was by far the most mundane little mud hole that Relius had ever seen, yet judging by how much effort his captors put in creating this fake village; he couldn't help but feel somewhat impressed by it. After all, the Malnosso not only gave their lab rats a forum to express their dismay in the form of these nifty journals, but also gave them to a place to strive as well. Here the masses could live their lives as they normally would, usually without any disruption by their benevolent but sometimes cruel captors. This fact alone somewhat fascinated Relius but it wasn't enough to distract him from the blinding agony. Stumbling down cobblestone streets, the puppeteer finally came rest at nearby alleyway. Doing his best to keep himself upright for now, Relius propped himself against the wall.

"Pathetic..." He muttered out with a hint of sarcasm in his tone. "They boast so enthusiastically about the powers they possess, but yet foolishly squander it on one such as I." An impish smirk settled on his lips as he thought about the look of terror that lingered within the boy's eye. "I take it that my progeny has yet to come to term with his true purpose yet." Another laugh escaped him. "That fool. I wonder if he shall finally take a hold of the destiny I offer to him." Suddenly finding enough strength to continue, Relius pushed himself off the wall and continued down the desolate street in silence. His presence was felt by no one and his words heard only by the night. The only reminder of his existence here in Luceti could be found as the crimson sploshes that paint the stone streets.
